Job Purpose

Coordinates and expedites flow of materials, parts, and assemblies between sections or departments, according to production and shipping schedules or department priorities, and compiles and maintains manual or computerized records: Reviews production schedules and related information and confers with department supervisors to determine material requirements to identify overdue materials and to track material. Plan, schedule and prepare production order details; correlate planning and scheduling with machine loading section; compile and prepare material requirement orders for inventory; issue requisitions for new and special materials; revise and reschedule orders when necessary; establish manufacturing lead times; collaborate with inventory control, purchasing, engineering, tool room to coordinate schedules; prepare reports; maintain files and records; assign work, instruct production clerks.

Education Level

  • Bachelor’s Degree Preferred

Job Experience

  • Five (5) or more years in manufacturing, materials and production coordination

Skills/Special Training Required to Effectively Perform the Job

  • APICS Certification
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints to the extent required to write manufacturing procedures with adequate clarity and detail for shop use


  • Requisitions material and establishes sequential delivery dates to departments, according to job order priorities and material availability
  • Examines material delivered to production departments to verify conformance to specifications
  • Arranges in-plant transfer of materials to meet production schedules
  • Computes amount of material required to complete job orders, applying knowledge of product and manufacturing processes
  • Orders and monitors the status of materials by maintaining inventory logs for piece parts and finished goods
  • Compile and prepare material requirement orders for inventory; issue requisitions for new and special materials, subcontracting of parts, etc.
  • Compiles and maintains manual or computerized records, such as material inventory, in-process production reports, and status and location of materials
  • May move or transport materials from one department to another, manually or using material handling equipment
  • May arrange for repair and assembly of material or part
  • Reviews and becomes familiar with all drawings, specifications, and other documents concerning assigned projects
  • Opens appropriate work packages to evaluate job costs, and determines the optimal lot size and acceptance test requirements commensurate with customer need dates and component parts delivery schedules
  • Coordinates with appropriate department personnel to fulfill all contract requirements
  • Writes or reviews manufacturing procedures and related documents
  • Revise and reschedule orders to compensate for rush order priorities, material shortages, vendors’ failure to deliver or customer cancellations
  • Establish manufacturing lead time on regular orders to meet delivery dates for new orders
  • Prepares and distributes master program and lot schedules and prepares shipping forecasts. Coordinates resolution of shop problems and revises schedules when necessary
  • Coordinates with the assigned QA engineer and test engineering group for accomplishment of all outside and in-house testing of hardware
  • Summarizes labor hours and material dollar costs on each job to prepare workforce projections and budget estimates in order to meet accounting requirements
  • Determines product packaging and shipping requirements
  • Prepares accurate, detailed labor and material estimates for proposed building jobs. This must be done from conceptual drawings and without detailed procedures
  • Schedule workflow between departments to expedite production of items
  • Review master production schedules and work orders to determine order priorities
  • Schedule manufacturing processes and reschedule identical processes to eliminate redundancies
  • Create and distribute work orders to staff members in different departments
  • Maintain liaison with department supervisors to determine work progress
  • Provide information on changes in manufacturing methods
  • Coordinate efforts with procurement managers to provide them with information on low inventories
  • Create and maintain effective liaison with vendors and suppliers to ensure timely delivery of materials
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by Management

Job Requirements

  • MRP experience
  • ERP Experience (Epicor preferred)
  • Teamwork, cooperation, positive attitude and strong work ethic
