Job Purpose

Design, analyze and troubleshoot mechanical and electro-mechanical products and systems by developing and testing specifications and methods from concept to manufacturing release.  Develops manufacturing processes by designing and modifying equipment for fabricating, building, assembling, and installing components. Requires close interaction with software, ERP systems, electrical and mechanical engineering functions. The work will be predominantly intellectual and varied in nature and will require independent judgment and discretion.

Education Level

Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or similar engineering discipline is required

Job Experience

  • A minimum of five (5+) years of experience in mechanical, electrical, electro-mechanical design
  • Skills/Special Training Required to Effectively Perform the Job
  • Experience preparing manufacturing drawings to ANSI Y14.5M drawing standards using GD&T for manufacturing and repeatability
  • Strong skills in 3D CAD systems. Solidworks experience is required
  • Ability to read and analyze schematics and electrical engineering drawings
  • Strong knowledge of mobile vehicle systems including powertrain control & battery management systems, electronic design, analog circuit design, electromechanical design, high speed digital circuits
  • Proficient in the use of MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint and database software

Responsibilities: List responsibilities/activities

  • Ensure that designs and documentation of components and systems meet specified technical customer demands, product safety, legislative requirements and internal demands
  • Provide support and/or solutions for service, production, suppliers and dealers
  • Coordinate build and testing of tooling, fixtures and pre-production components
  • Is able to foster an environment that welcomes and encourages new and innovative design concepts, inventions, patents and product opportunities for improvement giving Artisan Vehicle Systems a competitive edge over industry competitors
  • Contributes to overall profitability related to component design and test yield improvements on new and existing products
  • Work as a member of an integrated, interdisciplinary product team to examine, discuss, and develop solutions to difficult/complex issues with both internal and external stakeholders (customers, suppliers, internal management, etc.)
  • Develop complex mechanical and/or electro-mechanical mechanisms including designs, drawings, performance predictions and verification requirements and support briefings to management team
  • Perform related structural analysis (simple FEA) and classical hand calculations to determine if design meets functional / performance specifications and optimization of design before fabrication
  • Write new or modify existing PLC programs and make system hardware recommendations to resolve operational problems, improve processes, and implement new project designs to support factory initiatives and continuous improvement
  • Evaluate and troubleshoot control systems consisting of PLCs, AC and DC drives, computer controls, and HMI interfaces
  • Manufacturing documentation of electrical schematics, wire cut lists, mechanical assembly and wiring of enclosures & harnesses
  • Troubleshoot and repair circuit boards and assemblies; maintain detailed records and statistics for product improvement efforts
  • Design automatic test fixtures for PCBs, I/O box and misc. electronics. Compile operator instructions for in house test and contract manufacturer
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by Management

  • Experience in design and optimization subject to size and manufacturing constraints
  • Strong working knowledge of Configuration Management and Technical Data Packages, including change control and Engineering Change Process
  • Proficient in the use and troubleshooting of test equipment including, oscilloscopes, waveform monitors, power supplies, RF test equipment, digital multi-meter, etc.
  • Demonstrate good analytical and problem solving skills
  • An extensive amount of independent thinking is required
  • Able to work under minimal supervision, with management guidance
  • Ability and willingness to travel domestically and internationally as required
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong aptitude with computers and learning new systems
  • Experience in construction/heavy truck/equipment methods manufacturing, tool design, and related activities
  • Knowledge of Wheel Loaders and supporting off highway equipment preferred
  • Strong experience in system analysis, testing, troubleshooting to root cause
  • Demonstrable experience in developing and optimizing Electrical Test Processes
  • Teamwork, cooperation, positive attitude and strong work ethic
